Welcome to the 2007 version of the East Moline/Silvis Rotary Club "Pick the Winner" challenge. We have 70, yes, 70 players participating this year. Thank you to all who decided to have some fun, possibly win some money, and support our club and its many projects.
As it is every year, the first week is the hardest to pick and there are always some incorrect picks to start the year. Nene players became charter members of the 2nd Chance Club as compared to 15 players from a field of 56 participants last year. This number pales in comparison to the 36 players (out of 56) who were incorrect during Week 1 of the 2005 season.
The "highest" rated team that was used as a pick this week and lost, were the Eagles who looked out of place up on Lambeau Field. And, of course the Bears lost to a good-looking San Diego Charger's squad, but there were no Bear pickers this week.
I did talk Steve Verdick out of picking the White Sox (boy, he needs help), so he lives on to play another day. My nephew talked me out of picking the Raiders - - thanks, Justin!
Week 2 games all start on Sunday, so get your picks in by game time! And, as always, we're mere mortals and do make mistakes. If you see an error, kindly let us know and we'll see to it that it gets corrected. Thanks for playing! -Mark Judy
