Quarterly Food Insecurity Awareness Meeting

Recently, the East Moline Silvis Rotary Club held our first quarterly meeting focused on hunger and food insecurity in the Quad Cities.  Each quarter, we hear from a local organization or community leader working to address this important issue. Our guest at the meeting was Tim Smith, former President of the Moline Rotary Club and the coordinator of the newly expanded food pantry at Sacred Heart Church in Rock Island.

In addition to learning about the problem,  we've decided to keep our lunch simple at these specific meetings, donating the savings to our local food pantry. At the conclusion of the meeting, the membership is invited to stay a little longer to assemble food baskets providing them to our partner school districts to distribute to families in need.

We are learning about the challenges facing our community, and more importantly, as the people of action that we are, we are working together to make a difference.
